Do you IMEI check before handing over cash, or after?

Been burned once on a blacklisted iPhone I picked up at a meetup. Seller was friendly, phone looked clean, and it went bad two weeks later.

Now I run the IMEI before money changes hands, but it slows the meetup down and a couple of sellers have walked. How do you all handle it without killing the deal?

Always before. A seller who objects to an IMEI check is telling you something.

I check it in the car before I get out. Takes ten seconds and no one has walked yet.
